However, while WordPress is AMAZINGLY easy to use – it’s not so easy to install if you’re not a seasoned web professional. Unfortunately, to compound this problem – most of the information available about WordPress installation is written by geeks and people who live and work on the web.
What’s child’s play for them is often maddeningly obscure to even the most avid internet user.
Most of the authors of these tutorials have the BEST of intentions. They want to help you – but they seem to FORGET what it’s like to be a newbie -(or maybe they never knew the frustrations “real” people go through getting up to speed). As a result, most of these authors makes a LOT of assumptions when they create these tutorials.
- The authors ASSUME you know how to use FTP (File Transfer Protocol).

I recently helped a client who had purchased one of these “easy installation” programs. Unfortunately, the author repeatedly “begged off” explaining most of the basics -so that the program was virtually worthless for anyone who wasn’t familiar with chmod and FTP. The problem is there are more programs offered like that online than there are ones with real VALUE. It seems like there’s a ton of “watered down content” that is high on hype and low on value. Many are produced by “gurus” who will record telephone calls and then charge you hundreds of dollars to “eavesdrop” as they make small talk.
It’s the “fast, easy way” to sell content – but it isn’t the best way to create real learning materials.
