You’re right. The VA I hired didn’t have a blog – and that should have been my first clue that time management wasn’t her strong suit!

Red flags should have gone up when she required a 3 month contract before doing ANY work.

From a freelancers perspective I actually understand where you are coming from Cathy. That is why I offer a money back guarantee. Some might say it is risky, but I firmly believe that this helps me to cross those trust barriers with a new client. So far I have never had an issue with trust between me and clients. I also think that since I'm exposed on the web as it is, people seem to trust me more because many read my blog before they ask me to work for them. As an employer however I also worry about the trust issue. mainly because I don't know whether the person will deliver what they say they do. Therefore I understand the issues you had with your VA. I think giving them sample work is key to a possible long term relationship. It helps to build trust and assures that both parties dance the same dance. It really sucks when something like that happens. And there’s nothing worse than forking out a small fortune and winding up doing the work yourself.

Blogs are definitely a great way of building trust. I think we’re reaching a point where freelancers can’t afford not to have one.
